How to Unzip a Zip File Windows, Mac, and Linux OS

Opening a .zip file on the computer is simple, Windows and Mac both operating systems have the ability to unzip a zip folder. Zip files are the compressed format of the regular data. If you encounter a zip folder and want to open it, then you can extract them right from the extracting tool of your OS. Here is how to open a zip file in Windows, Mac, and Linux operating system.
How to extract zip files in Windows
With these simple steps, you can easily open a zip file in windows.
  1. Open the folder where the zip file is stored that you want to extract.
  2. Find and double click on the ‘Zip folder or file’ to extract it.
  3. File Explorer windows open with the Zip file you selected.
  4. Click on the ‘Extract’ tab at the top center of the window.
  5. Click ‘Extract all’ option in the opened toolbar.
  6. Click the ‘Extract’ button at the bottom.
The file or folder you selected will start extracting. After the process completes, the extracted folder will save as the standard folder with the same name it had before extracting. Now, you can open and view the files as usual.
How to extract zip files in Mac
With these simple steps, you can easily open a zip file in Mac.
  1. Open the folder where the zip file is stored that you want to extract.
  2. Find and double click on the ‘Zip folder or file’ to extract it. Doing this will start the file extraction process.
  3. Allow the process to get complete.
After the process completes, the extracted folder will save as the standard folder with the same name it had before extracting. Now, you can open and view the files as usual.

  1. Open the folder where the zip file is stored that you want to unzip.
  2. Write down the zipped folder name.
  3. Open ‘Menu’ from the lower left corner.
  4. Open ‘Terminal.’ Use the search to find the terminal app.
  5. Type “unzip
[zipfilename.zip]
” into the terminal window.
  • And, hit the ‘Enter’ key.
After the process completes, the extracted folder will save as the standard folder with the same name it had before extracting. Now, you can open and view the files as usual.
