Dealing With a Runtime Error in Microsoft office Word

If you have ever encountered a runtime error while using Microsoft Word you know how frustrating this can be, and if you have ever lost work as a result of this error you will definitely want to find a quick and easy fix to this common problem. Here are some simple steps you can take to fix a runtime error in Microsoft Word.
First thing’s first. What is a runtime error?
These errors are simply generic problems that occur in executing a program’s main executable file. For example, you may run Internet Explorer and when you do so, you’re executing. If a problem happens in the pipeline, then it prevents the application from running. Thus it’s a runtime error.
Microsoft has designed Word to resist problems and to work well with Windows. That being said, it’s possible that errors in the Windows database or residual data left by other applications and interfere with Word’s runtime. To deal with this, the best thing to do is to attempt to eliminate data-conflict errors.
Check for Updates
The first step you should always take when encountering errors in any program on your PC is to run a check for updates. Whether you use the latest version of Word in Office 2019 or an older copy of the program you can easily check to see if there are available updates. To check for updates in Word 2019…
Click the Office Button Select Word Options Click Resources Then Updates
In an older version of Word you can do this by clicking
Help Check for Updates.
You can also set up your computer to automatically upload updates for Microsoft Office through your Windows Updates settings.
Run a Disk Cleanup
Another quick way to solve many errors that are encountered on your PC is to run a disk cleanup. This is not only an effective solution for Word problems but other problems as well. To run a disk cleanup…
Click Start All Programs Accessories System Tools-Disk Cleanup
From here you will have to select the drive that you want to clean-up, the C drive in this case, and select the files that you want to delete. Files such as temporary internet files and the recycling bin are always a safe bet.
Stop Office from Running at Start-up
When you turn your computer on there are a number of programs that run automatically, and in some cases, Office may be one of them. To find out what programs run at start-up Click Start > Run > Type msconfig
Or type msconfig into the search field at the bottom of the start menu. This will open a window that will allow you to change the programs that are launched when you start your computer. Click the Start-up tab at the top. This gives you a list of all the programs that run at start-up. Make sure that Microsoft Office is unchecked and click OK.
Last Resort: Reinstall Word
If for some reason none of these steps seems to solve the run time error for your copy of Microsoft Word, you may want to consider uninstalling and reinstalling your version of Word. It is important to note, however, that you will need your product key to do this, so if you have lost it, or are not using a version of the software that you purchased yourself you will not be able to reinstall.
